BBL ELITE 2024 BOYS WSYL TEAM RANKED #2 IN THE WORLD!

Building Blocks Lacrosse Boys 2024 Team embarked on a journey this year and often addressed this journey as the “Road to Denver”, a reference to the 2019 World Series of Youth Lacrosse Championship series that took place in Denver, Colorado this July. The series gathers the top 24 13U teams in the world to compete to be crowned the best in the world. The importance of the youth series is apparent considering the WSYL Championship Game was played in a sold-out stadium and broadcast live on ESPN2, allowing for thousands of fans to watch at home.

On Monday August 5th, 2019 at 8:30am, the final Nissan World Series of Youth Lacrosse/ Inside Lacrosse 13U World Rankings were released. The BBL Elite 2024 Boys squad was announced as #2 in the world.

“ After finishing second in the WSYL East Qualifier, BBL Elite looked to prove they were indeed a title contender and one of the top programs in the world. BBL went on an incredible run, finishing 5-0 in pool play and routing No. 8 Evolve Elite Ontario 16-3 in the Quarterfinals. BBL Elite eventually fell to Team 91 Wolfpack in the Semifinals in what would be Team 91’s narrowest margin of victory in the entire Championship Series (8-5). BBL proved to be an offensive force throughout the event, scoring a combined 90 goals in seven games. BBL was led by WSYL scoring leading Cody Lam, who tallied 25 goals and four assists. He also had the help of his two other attackmen Daniel Dalessandro (15G, 6A) and Christian Schweiger (9G, 17A).” - Inside Lacrosse, insidelacrosse.com

The BBL Boys Elite 2024 Team spent countless hours training since the team’s inception in 2015. The commitment and dedication shows with the well-deserved world ranking. BBL Boys Youth Director and Coach, Tyler Russell, expressed his pride in the team upon being notified about the great news,

“After hearing the news that our 2024 World Series team finished the year ranked as the #2 team in the WORLD, I could not help but think back to 2015 when this team was just getting together as a group of 3rd graders who wanted to play more lacrosse in the summer. The majority of guys on the roster have been playing together for five years now and this ranking is a testament to their commitment and drive to become better lacrosse players.”

It is events like the World Series of Youth Lacrosse that inspire great teams like BBL to grow their game and compete at the highest level. The #2 world ranking is just the beginning for the BBL Boys 2024 Team and the Building Blocks Lacrosse Program.

“These guys have set the bar very high for future BBL teams trying to qualify and get back to the WSYL. We have the blueprint in place and feel that everything we did this year leading up to July 4th helped us for when we got out to Denver. Everything we did this spring was for a reason and the players and parents bought into the collective mindset and I can honestly say that is why we had the success that we did. The future is bright for our youth program and this 2024 team created a buzz within the program that we have never had before! Players on all of our younger teams should be excited about getting their chance when it comes!” , Tyler Russell, BBL Boys Youth Director

The next lacrosse year for BBL begins in September of 2019 and will include a new state of the art facility in North Jersey - fitting for a world ranked team. The future is bright for the program and this accomplishment is a great way to start the club’s biggest year yet. The WSYL BBL World Series Tryouts will be held in late February of 2020.
