BBL GIRLS NORTH 1/3/24 WEDNESDAY CLINIC

INTRO TO LACROSSE

Introduction to lacrosse is for the beginner player that utilizes fun games to teach fundamentals of lacrosse to young girls. Beginner girls will learn how to throw, catch and pick-up ground balls through fun games. Sessions will progress with skill development moving towards small-sided games and situations. No prerequisites are required. Stick, goggles, and mouthguard are required. Girls’ hair should be tied back and away from their face.

STICK SKILLS

Players will continue to become more proficient with their stick skills, by focusing on developing both their left and right hands. A player should develop both hands when it comes to stick skills. This clinic will focus on becoming proficient with throwing and catching with the left and right hands – with and without defensive pressure. Players will leave the clinic with a wall ball routine to take home so that they can continue to develop both hands – throwing and catching – outside of team practice time. Stick, goggles, and mouthguard are required.

GOALIE 1 TRAINING

Goalie 1 will teach basic fundamentals required to be a successful goalkeeper. This includes an emphasis on developing strong stick skills like changing hands, throwing and catching, and how to pick-up ground balls. Goalies will learn angles within the crease, how to step-too the ball on a shot, save high, mid, and ground shots. Goalie experience is not necessary. No course prerequisites are required. Full goalie equipment required, including mouthguard, helmet, throat guard, chest protector, goalie gloves, shin guards.

ADVANCED SHOOTING & DODGING

Advanced Shooting and Dodging will focus on building on what it takes to become and effective and efficient dodger and shooter in high paced and high-pressure situations. The use of both hands during the course will be emphasized. Dodging an opponent in an efficient and effective way is key for an offensive player’s success. Coaches ask players to execute dodges such as the split dodge, jab, roll, and rocker under a variety of game situations. Proper footwork, deception and change of speed will be emphasized more than the first level of Shooting and Dodging class. Players will be expected to take approximately 150 shots during a session under pressure to enhance their overall shooting and dodging skills. Prerequisites are not required, but some playing experience is encouraged. Stick, goggles, and mouth guard are required.

COMBO SPEED & AGILITY & STICK SKILLS

A highly effective lacrosse player combines working on sticks skills while executing speed and agility drills. This combination helps with body control and eye hand coordination. The course will focus on developing both the right and left hands, while challenging them to execute work with a ladder, hurdles, stationary blocking dummies and defensive poles. Players will leave the clinic with a wall ball routine that encompasses footwork drills to take home so that they can continue to develop both hands – throwing and catching – outside of team practice time. Prerequistes are not required, but some playing experience is encouraged. If the Prodigy class is not an appropriate level class for your child, we do reserve the option to move your child to a class where she would develop her skills prior to taking the this class. Stick, goggles, and mouthguard are required.

SHOOTING & DODGING 2

Shooting and Dodging 2 will focus on what it takes to become and effective and efficient dodger and shooter in high paced and high-pressure situations. ELITE GAME PLAY

Elite game play is the last step in our training series. Players continue to refine their abilities to play in numbered scenarios building from 1v1’s up to 4v4’s from the four quadrants around the critical scoring area, including the crease. If group and field size permits, the small 2-way game will be added to include transition play, clearing and riding. Prerequisites include shooting and dodging, prodigy and stickwork. Stick, goggles, and mouthguard are required.

GOALIE 2 TRAINING

Goalie 2 will revisit, and review fundamentals required to be a successful goalkeeper. This includes an emphasis on developing strong stick skills like changing hands, throwing, and catching, and how to pick-up ground balls. Goalies review angles within the crease, how to step-too the ball on a shot, save high, mid, and ground shots. Goalies will learn the art of intercepting the ball and then leading a fast break out of the critical scoring area. This course will add drills to specifically emphasize developing strong eye-hand coordination, hand speed and developing better focus on the ball. Goalie experience is necessary. No course prerequisites are required. Full goalie equipment required, including mouthguard, helmet, throat guard, chest protector, goalie gloves, shin guards.
